Some spiritual perspectives perceive encounters with narcissists and their cohorts as part of our karmic lessons or life assignments. These unions tend to serve as a mirror, deeply reflecting unresolved issues within the individual, usually components of the shadow, which acts as a catalyst for spiritual deepening and maturing. Other spiritual teachings, in particular those concerning the twin flame spiritual journey view the runner/chaser or empath/narcissist type of relationship dynamic in these sort of soul contracts created as a way to outgrow the enmeshment issues, self-trust deficit disorder and lack of self-love in the empaths or chasers, who are being initiated into ascending to their Higher Self. This is just one of the many layers of dealing with narcissistic wounding as a form of evolutionary path of the Soul that still needs to learn self-reliance, self-acceptance and responsibility for one’s own life in order to elevate into higher dimensions of existence.
Narcissists can also be seen as “psychic vampires” who drain the energy and vitality of empaths. This dynamic is often discussed in terms of energy balance, where narcissists draw from others because they lack inner resources and are disconnected from spiritual or divine sources of energy. Spiritual teachings encourage practices to protect one’s energy, such as grounding, shielding, and cultivating inner strength. It’s also a part of Soul’s development and growth on Earth.
While spiritual teachings do not excuse hurtful behavior, they often encourage self-understanding and transformation. Recognizing the narcissist’s suffering, their disconnection from their own soul and selves and their Higher Self their own unhealed wounds can be part of understanding of why and how they are in your life. Mercy, from a spiritual perspective is more about releasing painful imprints that are held within oneself, rather than condoning the behavior of the narcissist. It serves the purpose of cleansing our souls energetically from all the damaging earthly and spiritual influences that may block the Soul’s progress as it makes its way through the singular pursuit of their individual dreams in our beautiful journey in the Cosmos.
